Question

Can an employee be terminated without cause in Singapore?

Answer

Yes, an employer can end a contract with notice or salary in lieu of notice under its terms, without giving a reason. The dismissal must not be wrongful, for example because of pregnancy, or to deny the employee benefits, and employees can bring wrongful dismissal claims to the Employment Claims Tribunal. See our guide to notice periods.
