Employment Hero is a well-regarded, easy-to-use HR and payroll platform, but it runs as two separate products for HR and Payroll, and Malaysia payroll has more statutory depth than most platforms account for. This guide compares four alternatives for a Malaysia team: Omni HR, Deel, Darwinbox and HReasily.

Why This Guide Exists

Employment Hero is a genuinely well-liked platform. Reviewers rate it as the easiest-to-use HR interface in this comparison set, it offers real all-in-one convenience for SME buyers, and its Employer of Record footprint reaches 180 countries. If your team is happy with it, this guide is not an argument to change.

For a Malaysia team weighing it up, two things are worth checking closely first. Employment Hero HR and Employment Hero Payroll are two separate products underneath, two plans, two prices, two subscriptions, per their own help centre. And Malaysia payroll has more moving parts than most platforms account for, EPF and SOCSO run on statutory band tables rather than flat percentages, and the newest scheme, LINDUNG 24 JAM, only started in June 2026.

This guide compares four platforms for a Malaysia team: Omni HR, Deel, Darwinbox and HReasily.

Why Malaysia Teams Look for Employment Hero Alternatives

Employment Hero does not lose Malaysia customers because the product is bad. Reviewers rate it highly, 495 G2 reviews tag ease of use as its top strength, and 95% of reviewers give it four or five stars. The two things that send Malaysia teams looking elsewhere are more specific.

Two products, one seam

Employment Hero HR and Employment Hero Payroll are two separate products: two plan ladders, two per-employee prices, two monthly minimums, two subscriptions, two cancellation flows. Their own help centre splits which data lives where, personal details and leave entitlements sit in HR, pay categories and pay runs sit in Payroll.

Employment Hero's Malaysia pricing page also lists each product on its own ladder. For example, HR Standard is RM8 and Payroll Premium is RM12 per employee per month.

Everything on the HR side rates 4.3 or higher. Everything on the Payroll side, including tax compliance, rates 3.6 to 3.8.

Malaysia payroll has real depth

EPF and SOCSO run on statutory band tables, not flat percentages. Foreign workers are mandatory for SOCSO but excluded from EIS. The HRD Corp levy counts Malaysian citizens only. Malaysia needs four separate wage bases to calculate correctly across EPF, SOCSO, EIS and PCB. And LINDUNG 24 JAM, the newest SOCSO scheme, started June 2026 at 0.75%, optional for local employees since a July 2026 change, still mandatory for foreign employees.

We are not claiming Employment Hero gets any of this wrong, we have no evidence either way. These are the right questions to ask any Malaysia payroll vendor, including us, before you sign.

Support and implementation, in reviewers' words

Two Employment Hero customers left low ratings on G2 in 2026 and pointed at support. A reviewer in New Zealand rated it 1.5 out of 5 and wrote that "the support to date is vastly inadequate." A verified user in telecommunications rated it 2 out of 5 and wrote that implementation support "was practically non-existent through their appointed project support team." Both reviews are shown as posted.

1. Omni HR

Best for: Growing Malaysia companies that want HR, payroll, compliance and recruitment in one platform.

Omni HR was built for Asia from the start, with native payroll in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines, plus managed payroll across 20+ Asian countries, Employer of Record and contractor payments.

2. Deel

Best for: A Malaysia-based company hiring beyond Malaysia, or a foreign company putting its first people into Malaysia without setting up an entity.

Deel offers both an own-entity Global Payroll route and an EOR route for Malaysia, and names the employer contributions directly on its Malaysia hiring page: EPF at 13% on salaries up to MYR 5,000 and 12% above it, plus SOCSO, EIS and HRDF at 1%, for an estimated 13.60% to 14.60% total employer cost, with the vendor's own caveat that these figures are estimates for general informational purposes.

Pricing is published for some products and not others: EOR from $599 per employee per month, Contractor of Record from $325 per month, contractor payments from $49 per month. Standalone Global Payroll and HR platform rates are not published as figures.

Reviewers credit Deel for making international hiring, payroll and compliance straightforward, and for flexible payment rails. The honest limitation: for a Malaysia-only workforce paid in MYR, a flat USD management fee is a larger share of total employment cost than it would be in a higher-wage market, and reviewers also flag pricing clarity and conversion or withdrawal fees.

Rating: 4.9/5, 4,306 reviews (GetApp).

3. Darwinbox

Best for: Larger Malaysian employers, and regional groups with Malaysian headcount that want one suite across several Asian countries.

Darwinbox is an Asia-built HCM suite, positioned explicitly for "Enterprises with 200+ Employees," with Malaysia named among its Southeast Asian markets. Its Malaysia payroll page describes native, standardized, audit-ready payroll, without itemising EPF, SOCSO, EIS or PCB by name.

Pricing is not published on the Malaysia payroll page. Reviewers rate its reporting, analytics and mobile access highly (5.0 on GetApp). The honest limitation: it's scoped for the 200+ employee band by the vendor's own positioning, one reviewer described cost as high relative to alternatives, and a 50 to 200 person Malaysian company is buying above its own complexity.

Rating: 4.2/5, 45 reviews (GetApp), a small sample relative to the other options here.

4. HReasily

Best for: Companies managing teams across multiple Southeast Asian countries that want lightweight HR automation with regional coverage.

HReasily is a regional HR platform covering payroll, leave, claims, and time and attendance, with multi-country deployments across Southeast Asia. That regional reach makes it a relevant option for a Malaysia team with operations elsewhere in the region, not just a Malaysia-only tool.

Core features are payroll and statutory compliance automation, leave and claims management, time and attendance with scheduling and reporting, employee records with cloud-based access, and multi-country support across APAC. Pricing starts at approximately RM4 per employee per month for basic modules, with full-suite pricing varying by module.
