Employment Hero is a well-regarded Australian HR and payroll platform with a Malaysia presence. Omni HR is built natively for Asia. This guide compares the two on Malaysia statutory payroll, platform structure, real cost of a full stack, and support, using Employment Hero's own documentation.
Omni HR vs Employment Hero: The Short Answer
Employment Hero is a well-known, Australian-built HR and payroll platform. It is easy to use, and it covers HR, payroll and recruitment under one login. For a Malaysia team, the two things worth checking closely before signing are whether Malaysian statutory payroll is handled with the depth it actually needs, and how HR and Payroll work as separate products underneath.
Omni HR is built natively for Malaysia and the rest of Asia, with EPF, SOCSO, EIS, PCB, LHDN and HRDF handled in one platform alongside payroll for Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines. This guide compares the two on Malaysia statutory payroll, platform structure, real cost, and support, using Employment Hero's own help centre and documentation.
Malaysia Payroll Is Harder Than a Generic Platform Assumes
Malaysia payroll has more moving parts than most vendors, and most buyers, expect. Any platform claiming to handle Malaysia properly should be able to answer these without hesitation.
- EPF and SOCSO run on statutory band tables, not flat percentages. Multiplying gross pay by 11 or 13 percent gets close, but misses the schedule, and misses money.
- Foreign workers are mandatory for SOCSO but excluded from EIS. A single foreign worker toggle over-deducts if it does not separate the two.
- The HRD Corp levy counts Malaysian citizens only, calculated on basic salary plus fixed allowances, not total headcount or gross pay.
- Malaysia needs four separate wage bases, not one gross figure, to calculate correctly across EPF, SOCSO, EIS and PCB.
- The C.P.8D annual filing must be a specifically formatted file with field level rules, not a generic export.
- LINDUNG 24 JAM, Malaysia's newest SOCSO scheme, started June 2026. It began at 0.75%, is optional for local employees since a July 2026 government change, and stays mandatory for foreign employees. A vendor that has not caught up with the optional/mandatory split yet will over-deduct or under-deduct.

We are not claiming Employment Hero gets any of this wrong. We could not find evidence either way on some of these points, and it would not be fair to imply otherwise. What we can say is this: these are the right questions to ask any Malaysia payroll vendor, including us, before you sign. Omni HR runs native Malaysia payroll covering EPF, SOCSO, EIS, PCB, LHDN and HRDF, including a dedicated LINDUNG 24 JAM configuration per employee with automatic calculation against PERKESO's official contribution table.
Two Products Wearing One Name
Employment Hero HR and Employment Hero Payroll are two separate products: two plan ladders, two per-employee prices, two monthly minimums, two subscriptions, two cancellation flows. Their own help centre publishes a guide to which data lives where. Personal details, pay rate attributes and leave entitlements sit in the HR platform, while pay categories, deductions and pay run settings sit in Payroll.
| Feature (GetApp rating, review count) | Sits on | Rating |
|---|---|---|
| Employee database (n=56) | HR platform | 4.4 |
| HR management (n=26) | HR platform | 4.4 |
| Vacation / leave tracking (n=22) | Seam between the two platforms | 3.9 |
| Payroll management (n=51) | Payroll platform | 3.8 |
| Payroll reporting (n=27) | Payroll platform | 3.8 |
| Tax compliance (n=16) | Payroll platform | 3.6 |
Everything on the HR side of Employment Hero rates 4.3 or higher on GetApp. Everything on the Payroll side, including tax compliance, rates 3.6 to 3.8. Omni HR runs HR and payroll as one system, so there is no seam for a leave balance or a pay run to get stuck behind.
The Real Cost of a Full Stack
A full HR plus payroll stack in Malaysia requires one plan from each of Employment Hero's two ladders.
| Combination | Per employee / month | Combined monthly minimum |
|---|---|---|
| HR Standard + Payroll Standard | RM16 | RM320 |
| HR Premium + Payroll Premium (both marked "Recommended") | RM24 | RM480 |
| HR Platinum + Payroll Premium | RM30 | RM600 |
Employment Hero's Malaysia pricing page also lists each product on its own ladder. For example, HR Standard is RM8 and Payroll Premium is RM12 per employee per month.

Employment Hero bills on "active employees," defined in their own payroll billing guide as anyone included in a finalised pay run, an approved timesheet, an approved expense claim, an approved leave request, or a published shift, even if that action is later reversed. Charges are based on the greater of your plan minimum or actual billable employees that month.
Omni HR starts at USD 3 per employee per month for Core HR, with add-on modules from USD 1 each and no published setup fee, on a single platform and a single price.
Support and AI
Employment Hero publishes Southeast Asia business hours in its help centre (Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm Malaysia Time). The real differences are channel and escalation path: no phone support on any plan, Hero AI as the mandatory first point of contact, a support inbox stated to be unmonitored, and no published SLA. Omni HR provides same-day responses in Asia time zones through WhatsApp, Slack and email. This reflects current response times, not a contractual SLA.
Two Employment Hero customers left low ratings on G2 in 2026 and pointed at support. A reviewer in New Zealand rated it 1.5 out of 5 and wrote that "the support to date is vastly inadequate." A verified user in telecommunications rated it 2 out of 5 and wrote that implementation support "was practically non-existent through their appointed project support team." Both reviews are shown as posted.

Employment Hero's Hero AI and Recruitment Agent are available to Malaysia customers, gated by plan tier and metered monthly credits. Omni HR's Mino and its MCP connector are available on the Growth plan and above regardless of company size.
What Employment Hero Does Well
To be fair to them: Employment Hero is genuinely easy to use, the single most-mentioned strength across 495 G2 reviews tagging ease of use, with 95% of reviewers giving four or five stars. It offers real all-in-one convenience for SME buyers who want HR, payroll and recruitment under one login, and its Employer of Record footprint spans 180 countries, a genuine advantage for companies with people outside Asia.
